The Forgotten Winter Strength Food: Gond Horlicks-Style Drink

The Ancient Indian Muscle & Immunity Builder No One Talks About

Introduction

Everyone talks about turmeric milk. Everyone writes about til laddoo. Some people mention gajar halwa.

But almost nobody talks about Gond (edible gum) winter drink — a traditional North Indian strength tonic that was given to new mothers, growing children, and men doing heavy physical work.

Before protein powders. Before health supplements. Before energy drinks.

This was the real deal.

Edible gum, roasted slowly in ghee until it puffs like crystals, blended with nuts, spices, and milk — creating a thick, deeply nourishing winter beverage.

It’s warming.

It’s strengthening.

It’s extremely energy-dense.

And it’s nearly invisible online.

That’s exactly why this blog works.

What Is Gond?

Gond is natural edible resin extracted from certain trees. When fried in ghee, it puffs up and becomes crunchy and digestible.

In traditional Indian households, especially in Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, and parts of UP:

Gond laddoo was made during winter

Gond milk was given for strength

It was considered a “body-building” ingredient long before gyms existed

Modern blogs ignore it because it’s not “Instagram aesthetic.”

But nutritionally? It’s powerful.

Why This Is a True Winter Super Drink

Winter slows digestion.

Cold weather increases calorie requirements.

Immunity weakens.

This drink addresses all three.

Provides sustained energy

Supports joint lubrication

Helps muscle recovery

Warming spices improve circulation

Keeps you full for hours

This is not a light detox drink.

This is strength food.

Ingredients

2 tablespoons edible gond

1 tablespoon desi ghee

10 almonds

5 cashews

1 teaspoon melon seeds

1 cup full-fat milk

1/4 teaspoon dry ginger powder

1 pinch black pepper powder

1 small piece cinnamon

1 teaspoon jaggery (optional)

How To Make Gond Energy Drink

Heat ghee in a heavy-bottom pan on low flame.

Add small pieces of gond. It will puff up instantly. Remove and cool.

Crush the puffed gond into coarse powder.

In the same pan, lightly roast almonds, cashews, and melon seeds.

Blend nuts into a rough powder.

Boil milk with dry ginger, cinnamon, and black pepper.

Add crushed gond and nut powder. Simmer 3–4 minutes.

Add jaggery if needed.

Serve hot.

Texture should be slightly thick and creamy.

Drink it at night before bed or early morning.

Who Should Drink This?

People feeling weak during winter

Gym-goers wanting natural calorie-dense nutrition

Those recovering from illness

People with joint stiffness

Anyone needing healthy weight gain

Who should avoid excess:
